Chinese Open Year of the Sheep

On February the 22nd, I took part in the group exhibition Chinese Open Year of the Sheep, that has been running for 3 years in a row now.

This year, the exhibits were spread on three floors of this massive car park that is situated right bang in the middle of Chinatown.

It also went on for 3 days, which is shorter that its historical week-long event that is always free-entry to the public.

The exhibition attracts a high-calibre of artists working in the UK or internationally, working in sculpture, painting, print, photography, installations and performances.

I exhibited the following mixed media prints. From afar, they look like paintings because they were  high quality hi-res prints made on thick specialist board. I originally did watercolour, ink and collage drawings from a series that have been ongoing for some time. Once printed big, I painted on top of them. The following photos show you the final results.

There were live performances and other happenings by a number of artists that were scheduled throughout the day of the opening.  These were sometimes cheeky impromptu interactions with the public.

This exhibition is always well-visited and successful, partly because it benefits from the footfall of the Chinese New year festivities but also because it is well-advertised to art connoisseurs who look forward to this well-regarded and edgy show.

Here are a few more images of the best of the rest. I did not take photos of everything, the show was so big I had to discriminate!
